Brief history:
The International Applied Military Psychology Symposium IAMPS is a symposium series
that started in 1963, initiated by the US Office of Naval Research.
Since then it first has evolved into an important forum for information exchange
among European and North American military psychologists.
After the end of the cold war the scope of attending countries was widened
and IAMPS was conducted in countries such as Croatia, the Czech Republic, Russia and even Kyrgyzstan.
Meanwhile psychologists from all over the world participate in IAMPS.
A wide range of topics is typically covered.
This includes personnel selection and classification, manpower planning, leadership,
stress, training, simulation, and human factors.
Besides the local organizers the US Office of Naval Research International Field Office in London was the main sponsor of most events.
